How to Prepare for your Session

Preparing for your photo shoot:

  • Oily skin is your enemy at your session
    • If you wear makeup: It's best to go with "stage makeup" approach. Use foundation and translucent powder, primer for any eyeshadow application, finishing spray to keep your makeup intact during your session. Brow liner, blush, and lip liner with color application for the lips helps to define the face.
    • If you don't use make up: You can use a light application of matte foundation, powder, or a facial blotting sheet also works great on the day of the shoot. I can remove any blemishes digitally, but the oily skin cannot be adjusted in the same way
  • I recommend moisturizing your lips the entire week leading up to your shoot. Cracked lips are common during "allergy season" and we want you to be ready to smile big for the camera on that day
  • Pick an outfit that makes you feel great! You want to be comfortable and feel confident. If you need additional suggestions on what to wear, let me know.
  • Send me 3 of your favorite songs prior to your session :) Sometimes we need reinforcement and music is wonderful for that
  • Shine your shoes and iron your clothes 😀 It's a great time to do so, we will be able to see all this in the photos
  • Grooming- especially for close up shots, be sure to pay extra attention to your nails, hair, eyebrows, etc. when preparing for your shoot. You want to look and feel your best, the camera will capture all of it.
  • Remember your eyes will take center stage- blood shot or puffy eyes will come through- get a good night sleep so you can look your best!
What to bring to your photo session:
  • Blotting wipes and a small hand towel, for any excess sweat
  • Any outfits you will be changing into

Colors to wear/what to avoid:

  • The best colors are deep reds, teals/turquoises, and other shades in the blue-green family
  • Rich and deeper greens, purples, and blue are all good.
  • Did you know that Blue/Green are the most universally flattering family of all colors?
  • If a neutral is preferred, gray is the best, even better than black.

  • Earthy and warm browns are good.
  • Black and white together can offer too much contrast as well.
  • Mid-tone or more vibrant rose-pink tones and corals are flattering.
  • Beach Family Session Tips
